Heikki Lunta’s not done with the Upper Peninsula yet. As the Copper Country breaks past the 300-inch snowfall mark in this winter’s total, more snow arrives to the Keweenaw Peninsula. Visit Keweenaw’s Executive Director Brad Barnett says crossing the 300-inch mark is always a special moment in the season, delivering the conditions necessary for exciting winter activities.
Snow accumulation could add up to another 8 to 9 inches onto the region. Temperatures could rise over the weekend to 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The National Weather Service Marquette expects more snow in the forecast for Sunday through Monday.
Following recent snow melt conditions, ice may form over roads and parking lots. Drive carefully and anticipate curves and stops on the road. Always keep headlights turned on when driving in winter conditions to improve visibility for yourself and oncoming traffic. If you do get into an accident, remain calm and assess any damage to passengers or the vehicle. Contact emergency services or a tow provider if necessary.
