Michigan State Police UPSET concludes a several-month-long investigation resulting in arrests in Baraga and Houghton counties. For several months, UPSET detectives investigated two men believed to have been distributing crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl in Houghton and Baraga counties.
On Feb. 5, detectives executed three search warrants at known drug houses and arrested two individuals suspected of distributing drugs in the region. One warrant executed at a residence in Dollar Bay seized methamphetamine, electronic devices used in the distribution of drugs and $650 in cash. A second search was conducted at a residence in Hancock, where officials seized MDMA commonly known as ecstasy, fentanyl compounds and carfentanil, a known opiate that is 100 times stronger than fentanyl. Detectives also found $430 in cash. A third search warrant performed on a home in Baraga seized a small amount of cocaine and methamphetamine.
Bredon Hanks, 27, was arrested during the UPSET search of the Dollar Bay residence, and Michael Jestila, 60, was arrested during the search conducted in Hancock. In total, the MSP UPSET team confiscated more than a quarter-pound of methamphetamine, an ounce of cocaine and small amounts of MDMA and fentanyl. Jestila was arraigned in 97th District Court in Baraga County, with bond set at $5,000. Hanks was arraigned in Houghton County 97th District Court. He was given bond set at $100,000.
