High School

The seeds are set for the regional hockey tournament. Houghton is the top seed in Region 17, and will open against fourth-seed Hancock. Calumet is the second seed, and will face third-seed Jeffers. The regional semifinals will be played on Wednesday, February 18th, at the SDC, with the Calumet-Jeffers game at 5:30 and the Houghton-Hancock game at 7:30.

On the girls schedule…

The Houghton Alpine ski team competes at the regional tournament today.

Congratulations to legendary former Calumet High School volleyball coach Lisa Twardzik, who was inducted into the Michigan Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Saturday in Battle Creek. Twardzik was one of three new members honored this year, and only the second Upper Peninsula coach in the past twenty years to be inducted. Over 20 seasons as head coach, her Copper Kings teams won 10 conference championships and 10 regional titles. They reached the state tournament semifinals four times, and finished as Class C runners-up in 2008.

NHL

The Red Wings are off until February 26th because of the Olympics break.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Hornets tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Bucks play at Orlando this evening.

NFL

In the Super Bowl last night, the Seahawks held the Patriots scoreless over the first three quarters, and cruised to a 29-13 victory. Jason Myers kicked five field goals. Kenneth Walker III rushed for 135 yards, and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
