Robert “Bob” G. Carlson, 79, of Calumet, Michigan passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026 with his family by his side, and many friends in the past week coming to visit. Bob fought a courageous seven year battle with cancer.
He was born on December 26, 1946 in Laurium, Michigan to Raymond and Gerturde Carlson. Bob attended Calumet Public School and was a 1966 graduate of Calumet High School. After graduation he worked at the C&H mine for a short time and went to work on the ships on the Great Lakes.
Bob went to Michigan Tech Forestry school in Alberta, Michigan. After graduation from forestry, he went and took a course in drafting for construction. He worked in building construction for over 40 years, and loved all of it. He also worked privately helping friends and family building and remodeling homes.
Bob was a very special family man and had many friends. He was very soft spoken.
Bob had a wonderful summer home at Big Traverse Bay where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was an avid fisherman, loved to go to casinos, loved Las Vegas, enjoyed football games (mostly a Lion’s fan), was a big reader, and loved all animals especially his dogs.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Gertrude Carlson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Bruce Carlson and Mike Carlson as well as his brother-in-law Jim White and sister-in-law Gloria White.
Bob is survived by his wife Carol. He is also survived by his daughter Lisa (Mike) Zaio, granddaughters Bethany (Brett Minish) Zaio, Alexis (Tim O’Neill) Zaio and a great grandson Cooper. Other survivors include brothers / sisters -in-laws Dan and Nancy Cote and family, John and Pat Limback and family, nephew Russell (Allie C.) Carlson and grand nephew David (Amy) Carlson and son. Bob also leaves behind special friends Francis Prach and Bob (Cousy) Seppala, and a family from his first marriage.
The family would like to thank the wonderful Aspirus hospice care team, especially nurse Rachelle and neighbors Brian and Becky Macomber for always being there.
A celebration of life for Robert will be held at a later date.
