High School
In high school hockey yesterday at the Trenton MIHL Showcase…
- Connor Arko and Brody Donnelly scored in the first period, as Houghton blanked Mattawan 2-0. Cooper Flachs got the win in net, as the Gremlins outshot the Wildcats 46-24.
- Kirby Storm’s hat trick powered Hancock to a 4-2 victory over Brother Rice. Nolan Hanner netted the Bulldogs’ other goal, and Adam Mikkola earned the win in goal.
- Calumet suffered a 4-0 loss to Detroit Catholic Central. The Shamrocks, ranked second in the state, outshot the Copper Kings 40-11.

- Houghton plays Grosse Pointe Woods Liggett at 9:30. Coverage will begin around 9:10 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
- Hancock meets Chippewa Valley at 9:50.

- Ontonagon lost at Bessemer 53-39.
- Forest Park overpowered North Central 72-39.

- Calumet lost to Gladstone 49-41.
- Hancock stopped Gwinn 49-36.
College Hockey
The 19th-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team lost 4-2 at 15th-ranked Saint Thomas last night. Joe Prouty and Noah Reinhart scored for Tech. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 40 saves, as the Tommies outshot the Huskies 44-22. Those teams skate in Saint Paul again tonight.
Oliver Auyeung-Ashton made 38 saves and earned his first collegiate shutout, as Northern Michigan blanked Bemidji State 2-0. Warren Clark and Tobias Pitka scored first-period goals for the Wildcats, who host the Beavers again tonight.
Michigan Tech hockey fans are mourning the death of Jerry MacInnes. The wife of Hall-of-Fame hockey coach John MacInnes, Jerry made her own contributions to the program as president of the MTU Huskies Club, and a Hockey Advisory Committee member, along with spending 27 years on the staff of the Michigan Tech Employees Credit Union (now Breakwater Credit Union). She was inducted into the Michigan Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Jerry MacInnes was 99 years old. Services are being arranged by the Memorial Chapel.
College Basketball
Both Michigan Tech teams play at Grand Valley State today.

The Calumet Wolverines lost to the Mosinee Papermakers 9-4 last night, and visit the Sun Prairie Killer Bees tonight.
The unbeaten Portage Lake Pioneers call on the Eagle River Falcons this evening.
NHL
The Red Wings welcome the Avalanche this afternoon. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons outscored the Warriors 131-124 last evening. Cade Cunningham had 29 points and 11 assists. Jalen Duren added 21 points and 13 rebounds.
The Pistons host the Nets tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 5:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks visit the Celtics tomorrow afternoon.
Outdoor
A reminder that two of last weekend’s outdoor events that were postponed because of the blizzard will be made up this weekend.
The Heikinpäivä snowshoe event will begin at 2:00 at the Maasto Hiihto Trails Four Seasons Chalet at the Driving Park. You can use either the short or long loops.
Swedetown Winter Trails Day will take place tomorrow. Use the trails for free all day. Equipment displays and demonstrations will be set up between noon and 4:00.
