High School
In high school hockey Saturday…
- Houghton scored three goals in the third period to claim a 4-1 victory over Jeffers. After a scoreless first period, Houghton took a brief lead with a goal by Jack Sayen. Tage Rajala’s tally tied the score late in the period. Calvin Rinkinen netted the game-winner early in the third period. Braden Kari scored two late goals to seal the win. Brycyn Nettel made 25 saves for the Gremlins, and Kasen Halminen stopped 28 shots for the Jets.
- Hancock and Ashwaubenon skated to a 5-5 tie.
- Calumet claimed the Miner’s Helmet with a resounding 8-2 victory over U of D Jesuit. Nursing a 4-2 lead early in the third period, the Copper Kings blew the game open with four goals in the final 10 minutes, including a natural hat trick for Nathan Londo. Brady Boberg scored twice, and Kaden Cronenworth, Ben Anderson and Erik Loukus had one goal each. Beau Jukuri got the win in net, as the Kings outshot the Cubs 40-15. The Copper Kings outscored the Cubs 6-4 Friday, and took the total-goals Helmet series 14-6.

College Basketball
The Michigan Tech basketball teams swept their games at Lake Superior State Saturday…
- The women outscored the Lakers 68-57. Soraya Timms played the entire game, and led the Huskies with 20 points. Alyssa Wypych added 18.
- The eighth-ranked men’s team squeezed past the Lakers 84-83. Tech led by 15 at halftime, only to see LSSU score 54 points in the second half, and miss a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have given them the win. Marcus Tomashek had a game-high 36 points.
Both Northern Michigan teams won their games at Saginaw Valley State Saturday…
- The 13th-ranked women outscored the Cardinals 67-51. Jacy Weisbrod led the Wildcats with 21 points.
- Five players reached double figures as the 20th-ranked men’s team downed the Cardinals 86-77. Cal Klesmit paced the Wildcats with 19 points.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team completed a weekend sweep of 17th-ranked Minnesota State with a 4-1 victory Saturday night. The Huskies built a 3-0 lead with goals from Luca Fasciano, Kalem Parker and Isaac Gordon. The Mavericks got one back in the third period, before Carson Latimer sealed the win with an empty-netter. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made a career-high 46 saves.
Northern Michigan’s hockey team had the weekend off.

Both the Portage Lake Pioneers and the Calumet Wolverines had this weekend off.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Senators today. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, coverage will begin at 4:45 on KBear 102.3.
NBA
The Pistons pasted the Pacers 121-78 Saturday. Cade Cunningham, Duncan Robinson and Javonte Green led Detroit with 16 points each. Every Piston on the roster scored.
The Pistons host the Celtics tomorrow, with coverage at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks visit the Hawks tomorrow.
NFL
In yesterday’s Divisional Round playoff games…
- Wil Lutz’s 23-yard field goal in overtime lifted the Broncos to a 33-30 victory over the Bills Saturday. It was a costly win, though, as Denver quarterback Bo Nix suffered an ankle injury that ended his season.
- The Seahawks routed the 49ers 41-6.

- The Texans visit the Patriots for a 3:00 game.
- The Bears host the Rams in a 6:30 contest.

The Packers have reportedly reached a deal on a multi-year contract extension with head coach Matt LaFleur. LaFleur had one year remaining on his current contract. Terms have not been revealed.
