High School
In high school hockey last night…
- Houghton smothered Ashwaubenon 6-1. The Gremlins got goals from Porter Markham, Gunner Gullstrand, Jack Sayen, Brody Donnelly, Max Aldrich and Noah Maillette before the Jaguars finally found the net late in the game. Cooper Flachs got the win in goal, as Houghton outshot Ashwaubenon 42-22.
- Calumet outscored U of D Jesuit 6-4 in game one of the Miner’s Helmet series. Nathan Londo had a hat trick, Luke Hamlin scored twice, and Josh Asiala found the net once. Beau Jukuri made 14 saves in net.
On the hockey schedule today…
- Houghton skates at Jeffers. Coverage will begin around 12:10 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
- Hancock welcomes Ashwaubenon at 1:00.
- Calumet entertains U of D Jesuit in the Miner’s Helmet series finale. Coverage will begin around 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. Fans will have a chance to skate with the Kings after the game.
In high school boys hoops last night…
- Houghton v Ironwood – postponed, no make-up date announced.
- Watersmeet v Hancock boys basketball – canceled, will not be rescheduled.
- Forest Park downed Gladstone 46-59.
On the girls schedule…
- Gwinn v Calumet – postponed to Monday, with varsity tipoff at 6:00.
- Ontonagon v Baraga – postponed, and will be part of a tripleheader (boys JV, girls varsity, boys varsity) on 2/5 at Ontonagon.
- L’Anse v Wakefield-Marenisco – postponed until Wednesday.
- Forest Park defeated North Central 65-40.
On the girls schedule today…
- Houghton travels to Menominee.
The Houghton High School swim team competes at Marquette today.
College Basketball
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Lake Superior State today.
Both Northern Michigan teams play at Saginaw Valley State today.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team upended 17th-ranked Minnesota State 3-1 last night. The Mavericks took a first-period lead, but the Huskies tied it in the second frame with Max Koskipirtti’s 10th goal of the season. Carson Birnie scored the game-winner in the third period, and Carson Latimer added an empty-netter.
Those teams play again tonight at 6:07 at the SDC.
Northern Michigan’s hockey team has the weekend off.
GLHL
Both the Portage Lake Pioneers and the Calumet Wolverines have this weekend off.
NHL
The Red Wings speared the Sharks 4-2 last night. Alex DeBrincat scored his 25th goal of the season, Dylan Larkin netted his 24th, and J.T. Compher and Marco Kasper scored. Lucas Raymond had three assists. John Gibson made 20 saves.
The Wings host the Senators Sunday. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, coverage will begin at 4:45 on KBear 102.3.

The Pistons welcome the Pacers tonight.
The Bucks visit the Hawks on Monday.
