High School
In high school hockey last night…
- Nate Londo scored two goals in the final minute, as Calumet doubled up Gabriel Richard 4-2. Luke Hamlin opened the scoring for the Copper Kings, but the Pioneers responded with a pair of goals, and took a 2-1 lead while outshooting Calumet 18-7 in the first period. That was all they got, as the Kings held them to just nine shots for the rest of the game. Brady Boberg tied the score midway through the second period. Londo’s game-winner game with just 47 seconds left in regulation, and the insurance tally was an empty-netter.

- Jeffers downed Calumet 56-38.
- Ontonagon got past Lake Linden-Hubbell 66-60.
- Baraga defeated Ewen-Trout Creek 57-51.
In girls’ action…
- Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Ontonagon 60-39. Payton Goldsworthy scored 34 for the Lakes, and Cleo Milky added 12.
- Ewen-Trout Creek dealt Baraga its first loss of the season, 40-21. The Panthers improve to 6-1.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 59-28.
- L’Anse outscored West Iron County 70-41.
- Forest Park slipped past North Dickinson 41-35.
On the girls schedule tonight…
- Hancock travels to Ironwood.
College Hockey
Michigan Tech’s Max Koskipirtti has been named the CCHA Forward of the Week. Koskipirtti scored two goals in Friday’s 5-2 win at Bemidji State, including the game-winner.
College Basketball
Marcus Tomashek of the Huskies has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Tomashek scored 60 points in Tech’s recent wins over Northern Michigan and Ferris State, and passed the 2,000 point career scoring mark. It’s his second Player of the Week honor this season, and the 10th of his career.
NHL
The Red Wings dropped a 3-0 decision to the Bruins last night. Cam Talbot made 38 saves, as Boston outshot Detroit 41-24.
The Wings host the Sharks Friday. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons return to action tomorrow, when they host the Suns. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tobias Harris, Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart practiced with the team yesterday, and could return for tomorrow’s game. Harris has been nursing a hip injury, Duren a sprained ankle, and Stewwart missed Saturday’s contest because of illness.
The Bucks buried the Timberwolves 139-106 last night. Five Milwaukee players scored in double figures, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo with 25.
The Bucks will visit the Spurs tomorrow.
Youth Soccer
The Community Alliance for Progressive Education is staging an indoor youth soccer clinic. All players up through U-18 are welcome. Sessions will be held Monday and Tuesday evenings for six weeks, beginning this coming Monday, and will be led by MTU soccer players. The cost is $130, and financial assistance is available if needed. For details and registration, click here.
MLB
Pitcher Bryan Sammons is returning to the Tigers. Sammons made a few appearances with Detroit in 2024, then played last year in Japan. It’s a minor-league deal, and he is expected to start the season at Toledo.
