Senator Gary Peters’ bipartisan legislation supporting the USGS Great Lakes Science Center has been signed into law.
Following federal efforts by DOGE in 2025 to reduce staff across federal departments and cut program funding, Peters partnered with Senator Jon Husted of Ohio on a bipartisan bill to restore funding to the Great Lakes Science Center.
The legislation will restore the center’s funding and support the facility for another five years.
Staff working at the Great Lakes Science Center often collaborate with local, state and tribal partners to conduct important fisheries research, focusing on native and invasive species to determine best management practices.
Peters helps lead the Senate Great Lakes Task Force as co-chair.
