High School
In high school hockey last night…
- Houghton shaded Hartland 2-1 in overtime. Jack Sayen scored for the Gremlins in regulation, and Connor Arko netted the game-winner. Brycyn Nettle made 22 saves, as the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season.
- Calumet doubled up Trenton 6-3. After Drake Niemela and Brady Boberg gave the Copper Kings a 2-1 first-period lead, the Kings took control with four tallies in the second period – two by Luke Hamlin, and one each by Rogan Gronlund and Erik LoukuS. Beau Jukuri made 35 saves.

- Baraga defeated Calumet 61-38. Daniel Connor led the Purple Hornets with 25 points, Joseph Fish added 15, and Easton Foucault had 11. Andrew Juntilla and Peter Torola each scored 10 for the Copper Kings.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City overwhelmed Chassell 78-29.
- Jeffers lost 62-37 at West Iron County.
- Forest Park at Munising – postponed.
On the girls schedule…
- Houghton got past Gladstone 63-59. Ellie Hainault led the Gremlins with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Kate Filpus added 17 points, and Mia Lawson 15. Lillie Johnson, who is headed to Wisconsin-Green Bay next year, scored 47 points for the Braves.
- L’Anse downed Calumet 57-39. Millie Loukus scored 11 for the Copper Kings, followed by Bailey Strom with 8.
- Hancock fell at Ishpeming 60-53.
- Jeffers shut down Ontonagon 53-18.
- Forest Park v Carney-Nadeau – postponed.
College Basketball
The ninth-ranked Michigan Tech men’s team downed Florida Tech 64-52 at the Florida Tech Winter Classic in Melbourne last night. Marcus Tomashek scored 22. The Huskies take on Lynn University today.
Ella Mason scored a career-best 25 points, as the Tech women’s team held off Northwood 89-87 last evening. The Huskies led by 12 at the end of the third quarter, and held off a furious Timberwolves’ comeback.
In Puerto Rico, the NMU men’s team opened a quick 15-0 lead, and dominated UPR Rio Piedras 81-42. Dylan Kuehl netted 15 to lead the Wildcats. Northern has won nine straight games, and wraps up its Puerto Rico trip with a game against UPR Bayamon tonight.

The Portage Lake Pioneers outscored the De Pere Deacons 8-5 last night, and visit the Fox Cities Ice Dogs this evening.
The Calumet Wolverines call on the Eagle River Falcons tonight.

The Red Wings entertain the Capitals today, with coverage beginning at 12:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons host the Hornets tonight.
The Bucks visit the Timberwolves tomorrow.
NFL
The Commanders host the Eagles this afternoon, and the Packers visit the Bears tonight. Coverage of both games will begin at 4:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Lions entertain the Steelers in a 4:25 game tomorrow, with the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
MLB
From the “If It Weren’t for Bad Luck, I’d Have No Luck at All” file, former Guardians and Orioles pitcher John Means was set to sign an MLB contract Tuesday, after spending a year rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. A few hours before the signing session, though, he was working out and ruptured his Achilles tendon. Surgery was successful, but there’ll be no season, and no contract.
