High School
In high school hockey Saturday…
- Houghton fell to Grandville 4-3 at the West Michigan Hockey Showcase in Grand Rapids. The Gremlins opened a 3-1 lead, with first-period goals by Noah Maillette and Mason Soli, and a late-second-period tally by Calvin Rinkinen. The Bulldogs responded with three straight to take the win. Cooper Flachs stopped 24 shots.
- Jeffers powered past Sault Ste. Marie 6-1. Cade Coponen had a goal and two assists for the Jets, and Hudson Heinonen, Easton Therrian, Blake Heltunen, Reese Laitala and Tage Rajala also scored. Kasen Helminen made 28 saves.
College Basketball
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams earned wins at Parkside Saturday.
- The 14th-ranked men’s team got 18 points from freshman Jesse Napgezek in a 69-64 victory. Ty Fernholtz added 16.
- The women’s team slipped past the Rangers 65-60. Ella Mason led the Huskies with 18 points.
Both Northern Michigan teams picked up victories at Roosevelt.
- Cal Klesmit pumped in 20 points – 17 over a six-minute stretch in the second half – as the men’s team dispatched the Lakers 85-64.
- The women’s team held off a late Lakers rally, and pulled out an 83-82 win. Sarah Newcomer scored a season-best 21 points.
College Hockey
The Northern Michigan hockey dropped a 4-3 overtime decision at Bowling Green. The injury-riddled Wildcats had only 17 healthy players for the game. Caiden Gault scored twice, and Warren Clark once. William Gramme made 35 saves.
The Michigan Tech hockey team had the weekend off.
GLHL
Gab Carlson’s overtime goal lifted the Portage Lake Pioneers to a 5-4 win over the Fond du Lac Bears Saturday night.
The Calumet Wolverines routed the Sun Prairie Killer Bees 12-1. Izaak Avery scored twice.
NHL
The Red Wings rallied to earn a 4-3 victory over the Kraken Saturday night. Emmitt Finnie and Andrew Copp scored early. James van Riemsdyk tied the game early in the third period, and Patrick Kane scored the game-winner with two-and-a-half minutes left in regulation. John Gibson made 24 saves.
The Wings visit the Canucks tomorrow. Coverage will start at 9:45 on KBear 102.3.
NBA
Cade Cunningham had 23 points and 12 assists as the Pistons outscored the Bucks 124-112 Saturday night. Jalen Duren added 16 points, and grabbed 16 rebounds. Milwaukee’s Kevin Porter, Jr. led all scorers with 32 points.
The Pistons are off until Friday, when they host the Hawks. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks entertain the Celtics Thursday.
NFL
The Packers host the Bears in a 4:25 game today.
In tonight’s game, the Texans visit the Chiefs, with coverage at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tomorrow, the Chargers entertain the Eagles, with coverage at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
