Marianne D. White, age 73, of Laurium, Michigan, passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Though she has left this world, her spirit continues to shine brightly in the lives she touched.
Born on December 13, 1951, in Harrisville, Michigan, Marianne was the first born daughter of Edward and Dorothy (Kargela) White. She graduated from Calumet High School in 1970 and spent time working in retail in both Laurium, Michigan, and Berlin, Wisconsin.
In 2004, Marianne met her soulmate, Ted R. Adiska, and together they shared 21 years of love,
laughter, and companionship.
Marianne’s life was a tapestry of kindness, creativity, and joy. She was happiest surrounded by family, never missing a gathering if she could find a way to be there. Her love for animals was boundless—whether caring for cats and dogs or nursing injured wildlife back to health, she gave each creature her gentle touch. One of her most memorable adventures was raising a baby skunk affectionately named Stinker, whom she nurtured until he was strong enough to return to the wild—always with a smile and a story to share about her unusual little friend.
Children held a special place in her heart. She delighted in bringing them small gifts or treats and always gave them her full attention. Known for riding her scooter through the neighborhood, Marianne spread cheer by handing out candy to children and treats to dogs. She nurtured gardens with her green thumb, filled kitchens with the aroma of her cooking, and expressed her artistic side through oil painting. Her gentle nature and generous spirit made every encounter with her memorable.
Marianne and Ted were members of the Houghton Baptist Church, where they found a community of lifelong friends and caregivers. Through this fellowship, Marianne embraced her faith and placed her trust in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Redeemer. She found peace in the promise of eternal life, comforted by the thought of being reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, and awaiting the day when future loved ones will join her in heaven.
Marianne is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Dorothy White, and her son, Jim Taube.
She leaves behind a loving family: her daughter Susan (William Bessner) Clayton; granddaughters Rachel (Alan Young) Clayton and Megan Clayton; siblings Thomas White, Katherine Heiss, Nancy Taglione, Debbie (Gary) Capello, Patti Monroe, Steve (Marie) White, Dan White, and Greg White; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her memory forward.
A memorial service to celebrate Marianne’s life will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, followed by a spring burial at Lake View Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan, with a luncheon to follow at the Siskiwit Reception Hall and Conference Center.
Marianne’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and compassion. She will be remembered not for the day she left us, but for the countless days she filled with joy that made her life uniquely hers.
