The final district championships in the high school volleyball tournament were decided last evening…
In Division Four, District 98:
- Hancock swept Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-20). The Bulldogs will face Forest Park in a regional semifinal Tuesday at 7:00 at L’Anse High School. Norway and Ishpeming will meet in the other regional semifinal Tuesday at North Dickinson High School. The game will be broadcast on 99.1 WIKB.
In Division Three, District 65:
- Jeffers advanced with a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22) victory over West Iron County. The winner will face Manistique in a regional semifinal Tuesday at 6:00 at Gwinn High School.

The Lake Linden-Hubbell football team will play at North Dickinson this afternoon in an Eight-Player Division Two regional title game. The winner will face Onekema in the semifinals next weekend.
In other games involving U.P. teams…
- In Division Four, Escanaba will host Big Rapids for a district title. The winner will meet Hudson Unity Christian in the regionals next weekend.
- In Division Five, Kingsford will travel to West Branch to face Ogemaw Heights today. The winner will face Swan Valley from the Saginaw area in the regionals next weekend.
- In Division Seven, Menominee will host McBain today. The winner will face Shelby High School from the western Lower Peninsula in the regionals next weekend.
- In Division Eight, Bark River-Harris defeated Iron Mountain 41-20 to claim a district title. The Broncos will play at Glen Lake in the regionals next weekend.
- In eight-player Division One, Norway eliminated Pickford 58-12 last night to win a regional title. The Knights will face Montabella High School in a semifinal next weekend.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team grabbed an early lead, and cruised past Northern Michigan 4-1 last night at the SDC. Stiven Sardarian scored the first of his two goals just 22 seconds into the contest. Brayden Boehm and Reid Andresen also scored for the Huskies. Jakub Altrichter netted NMU’s only goal midway through the third period. Owen Bartoszkiewicz stopped 26 shots to earn the win in net. Those teams play again tonight at 6:07 in Marquette.
College Soccer
The MTU women’s soccer team welcomes Purdue Northwest today at noon, as the GLIAC regular season comes to a close.
The NMU men’s soccer team hosts Purdue Northwest in a GLIAC tournament quarterfinal match tomorrow.
College Volleyball
The MTU volleyball team pulled out a 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11) victory over Davenport last night. Rachel Zurek had 20 kills. Madelyn Kreider recorded 69 assists. Julia Fledderjohn had 26 digs, and Amelia Albers added 23. The Huskies host Ferris State today at 2:00.
Northern’s volleyball squad upended Ferris last evening 3-2 (26-24, 21-25, 27-25, 13-25, 16-14). Sydney Bartels had 21 kills. The Wildcats entertain Davenport today.
College Football
The Tech football team plays at Grand Valley State today at 2:00.
Northern’s football team travels to Davenport today.
College Basketball
The NMU women’s basketball team opened its season with a 66-57 victory over California University of Pennsylvania at the CCA Tip-Off Classic in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, last night. Sydney Whitehouse and Jacy Weisbrod each scored 18 for the Wildcats, who face Gannon tonight.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers opened their schedule by dismantling the M and M Shamrocks 10-3 last night.
NHL
The Red Wings lost to the Rangers 4-1 last evening. J.T. Compher scored Detroit’s only goal. Cam Talbot stopped 22 of 26 shots.
The Wings welcome the Blackhawks tomorrow. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 12:45 on KBear 102.3.
NBA
The Pistons outscored the Nets 125-107 to earn an NBA Cup victory last night. Cade Cunningham had 34 points and 1o assists. Jalen Duren had 30 points and 11 rebounds.
The Pistons visit the 76ers tomorrow night.
The Bucks also earned a Cup victory, downing the Bulls 126-110. Giannis Antetokounmpo dominated the game with 41 points, 15 rebounds and 9 assists.
The Bucks welcome the Rockets tomorrow afternoon.
NFL
The Lions visit the Commanders for a 4:25 game Sunday, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift. We’ll also broadcast tomorrow morning’s Falcons-Colts game from Berlin, and tomorrow evening’s tilt between the Steelers and Chargers.
The Packers host the Eagles Monday night, with coverage also on 99.3 The Lift.
