In Calumet, a building sits at the end of fifth street to provide the community with what they need. Over many years, the copper country angel mission has worked to keep the community fed, warm, and ready to learn. And sends out some joy to families during Christmas. CCAM Board of Directors Member Sherry Middlemis-Brown says the free store has been a place in the copper country where people can find hope and a group of volunteers that know where they’ve been.
And those are the very people that come back, and they work here. Or they donate to us and they say, you know, when I was a kid, my mom used to get us clothes here, you know, that sort of thing. Ah so yeah, it means a lot. And I think that the notoriety from giving tuesday has been huge in making people realize that, yes, we’re here, and this is what we do. And we can help you out if you need it. Or we can be a place to come and volunteer. – Sherry Middlemis-Brown, Board Member, CCAM Board of Directors
The copper country angel mission has used funds from copper shores’ Giving Tuesday to support facade work on its building. And has used the funds to support and grow programs such as Coat the Copper Country, the Back-to-school Backpack Collection, and the annual Angel Tree Program. Those interested in learning more about the copper country angel mission can stop by the storefront at 433 5th street in calumet, Wednesdays through Saturday from 11am to 2 pm. Copper shores will open this 2025 giving Tuesday donation portal next week. Check out their Facebook page and keep up with giving Tuesday as December 2nd grows closer.
