Current members of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Council garnered most of the votes in Saturday’s primary election.
The top four vote-getters in each district advance to the December election. Two council seats from each district will be filled.
Unofficial totals released by the Tribal government for the L’Anse District showed incumbents Austin Ayres with 80 votes and Jeremy T. Herbert with 49. They will be joined on the December general election ballot by Mathew Shalifoe, Jr., who collected 44 votes, and Brent Waranka, who tallied 38. Haven K. Curtis finished out of the running with 30 votes.
In the Baraga District, results show incumbents Everett Ekdahl, Jr. with 116 votes and Rodney Loonsfoot with 62. Patrick Racette, with 47 votes, and Bruce LaPointe, with 45 votes, also advance to the December ballot. Christine Awanohopay with 40 votes, Tashina Emery with 33 votes, and Becky Genschow with 14 votes fell short.
Results are not official until certified by the Tribal Council.
