Hancock Trails Club opens a new space for beginners and advanced bikers to grow their skills. While having some fun on the trails. The new Creekside trails and bike parks open a new opportunity for mountain bikers visiting and living in the copper country. In the summer the Hancock Trails Club coordinated a match fundraising campaign with the MEDC. And was surprised to raise the funds so quickly.
So, we got a fully new parking lot redone with split rail fencing, along with some trails being rehabilitated and some new trails being built. So, so far we have around two trails completed, two large features being this kids loop behind me that kids are enjoying already. And then a short little downhill area for beginner riders to learn how to drop and jump and learn some basic skills. – Ian Helmer, Board Member, Hancock Trails Club
The Creekside trails and bike park further connect the Maasto Hiito trail network with the Churning Rapids Trails. The park is near Hancock campground. Offering more recreation near a popular visitor destination. And welcomes the Keweenaw peninsula mountain bikers to try out some trails a little south of copper harbor. To find the Creekside trails and bike park, follow m-203 west in Hancock, and turn right just after passing superior sand and gravel. Those interested in learning more about the project and Hancock Trails Club can find more details online.
Helmer adds a couple of sections remain under construction. The large down hill trail needs final touches before bikers can use the clay based trail. And down hill trails to the west of the park need work on jumps, and stamping down dirt for the trail base. In the winter the Hancock Trails Club will open sections of the park to access by snowshoe or cross-country ski.
