In high school volleyball last night…
- Houghton got past West Iron County 3-1 (25-23, 25-8, 23-25, 26-24). Ellie Hainault had 9 kills and 4 blocks for the Gremlins. Alyssa Northey had 15 assists and 3 aces, and Emmy Pietila 24 digs.
- Calumet swept Hancock 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22).
- Lake Linden-Hubbell got past Ironwood 3-2 (25-19, 15-25, 14-25, 25-18, 15-10). Cleo Milkey had 16 kills and 11 digs for the Lakes. Ashlyn Steves had 18 digs and 3 aces. Payton Goldsworthy had 30 assists.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City earned a senior night sweep over Bessemer 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-15). Laila Bell had 24 service points, including 7 aces. Kiera Isaacson had 15 kills and 7 digs. Sophie Berryman added 5 kills, and Sylvie Kentala ended the night with 21 assists.
- Chassell fell 3-1 to Wakefield-Marenisco (25-18, 25-28, 23-25, 25-9). For Chassell, Elli Kuntze had 10 kills, 9 digs, and 2 aces. Sylvia Aho had 21 assists, 1 kill, 1 block, and 6 digs. Oriana Olson had 7 kills, 7 digs, 1 block, and 3 aces. Ella Hermanson had 2 kills, 1 block and 1 assist.
- Baraga swept L’Anse 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-23).

College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 14-25, 20-18) marathon at Northern Michigan last night. The two-hour match included 45 ties and 20 lead changes – 12 ties and eight lead changes in the fifth set alone, as NMU survived three match points to take a 20-18 win. Rachel Zurek led the Huskies with 15 kills. Tricia Kennedy had a career-best nine blocks. Madelynn Kreider racked up a season-best 47 assists. Julia Fledderjohn had 28 digs. McKenzie Gruner slammed 24 kills for the Wildcats. Liesl Haugen had 28 digs, and Allie Barlow 59 assists.
College Basketball
The preseason All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Team was introduced yesterday. Northern Michigan’s Jacy Weisbrod was named to the first team. Michigan Tech’s Kendall Standfest was placed on the second team.
NHL
Dylan Larkin had two goals and an assist, as the Red Wings outskated the Blues 5-2 last night. Ben Chiarot, Alex DeBrincat and Elmer Soderblom also scored. John Gibson made 20 saves.
The Wings visit the Kings tomorrow night. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 10:15 on KBear 102.3.
NBA
The Pistons entertain the Magic tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks outscored the Knicks 121-111 last night. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 37 for Milwaukee.
The Bucks welcome the Warriors tomorrow.
MLB
The Blue Jays shut down the Dodgers 6-2 last night, and evened the World Series at two wins per team. Game five will be played tonight in Los Angeles.
Brice Turang has been named the Milwaukee Brewers’ most valuable player by the Milwaukee chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. The Milwaukee second baseman batted .288 with 18 home runs and 81 RBI. He stole 24 bases and scored 94 runs. Freddy Peralta was named the team’s top pitcher after finishing with a record of 17-6. Quinn Priester was voted the team’s top newcomer.
NFL
Congratulations to last week’s Wolf Pro Football Challenge winner Tammy Ecklund, who turned in a 12-3 card at Harter’s Party Store in Calumet.
