Its nearly time leaf peepers begin to arrive in the Keweenaw Peninsula. For many years the Upper Peninsula’s transformation into fall colors was a secret known only to locals. And those from downstate lucky enough to make the trip up or to attend school in the region. Tourism spotlights the Upper Peninsula’s recreation all year round.
But fall has certainly grown quickly in popularity. Keeping people visiting the region longer.
With the change of seasons each year, comes everyone’s prediction for when foliage will reach its peak. Visit Keweenaw recently shared it has begun to track fall colors in the region each week. Online the tourism bureau uses a five-leaf rating system to track the change from green to the fiery display of color. While some trees have begun to turnover an old leaf, and show some red, yellow or orange, most in the Keweenaw Peninsula will take a little longer. South of the Keweenaw Peninsula, near areas like Twin Lakes, travelers can find more color, but not much more right now.
