In high school volleyball last night…
- Lake Linden Hubbell got past beat Ewen-Trout Creek 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-20). Emily Burnham led the Lakes with 10 kills and 4 blocks. Cleo Milkey had 8 kills, 3 aces and 9 digs.
- Chassell defeated Bessemer 3-1 (25-15, 25-21, 19-25, 25-11). For Chassell, Elli Kuntze had 16 kills, 1 block, 7 digs and 7 aces. Sylvia Aho had 2 kills, 14 assists, 6 digs and 6 aces. Dusty Lippold had 7 kills, 6 digs and 1 ace. Oriana Olson had 3 kills, 8 digs, and 1 ace.
- L’Anse swept Watersmeet 3-1 (25-14, 25-24, 25-18).

The Tigers had yesterday off, and open a series against the Yankees in New York tonight. Casey Mize will start against Will Warren. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit may have some pitching help soon. Paul Sewald, who was obtained from the Guardians at the trade deadline, could join the team as early as tomorrow. He’s recovering from a shoulder strain. José Urquidy will make his second rehab appearance for the Mud Hens today or tomorrow. He’s rehabbing from Tommy John ligament replacement surgery.
The Brewers suffered a 5-0 shutout at the hands of the Rangers last evening. Michael Helman drove in all five Texas runs – four on a grand slam off Jose Quintana.
The Brewers continue that series at Texas tonight. Milwaukee has not desiganted a starter. Jack Leiter will open for Texas.
Milwaukee is expected to activate Rhys Hoskins off the injured list today. He’s missed two months with a sprained thumb. Reliever Grant Anderson was brought back yesterday, after missing three weeks with an ankle problem. Craig Yoho was sent to Nashville to make room.
NFL
In last night’s NFL game, J.J. McCarthy made his debut at quarterback, and led the Vikings to a 27-24 comeback victory over the Bears. Minnesota scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
