MLB
The Tigers snapped their four-game losing streak with a 5-3 comeback victory over the Royals last night. K-C struck early, plating three runs on a pair of homers off Chris Paddack in the first inning. Detroit responded quickly, with a two-run Kerry Carpenter single in the second. Riley Greene’s two-run double in the fourth gave the Tigers the lead, and Dillon Dingler’s solo home run in the eighth sealed the win. Greene becomes the first Tiger since 2017 to drive home 100 runs in a season.
The Tigers play at Kansas City again tonight. Jack Flaherty will start against Stephen Kolek. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit will finish the season without reliever Beau Brieske. Brieske struggled this summer, first with the Tigers, and then the Mud Hens. An elbow problem landed him on the injured list in early July. Doctors now say he won’t need surgery, but will need extensive rehab.
Tigers radio broadcaster Dan Dickerson is taking some time away from the broadcast booth to be with his mother, who is seriously ill. Greg Gania from Detroit’s Erie farm team will fill in.
The Brewers bounced the Blue Jays 7-2 last evening. Andruw Monasterio’s homer ignited a five-run sixth inning. Freddy Peralta gave up just one hit over six shutout innings, and earned his 16th win of the season.
The Brewers visit the Blue Jays again this afternoon. Quinn Priester will pitch against Kevin Gausman.
