In less than 30 days, the Hancock Trails Club accomplished its fundraising goal with Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Thanks to the community. HTC board member Ian Helmer says it took the group about 15 days to raise more than 50,000 dollars for the Creekside Bike Park and trailhead project. With time still left before the campaign closes, additional donations will support additional ideas for the space.
With the final building being available, hopefully around the year 2026, the Keweenaw area in 2026. So that would be like early June or late May. So, something we’re looking at on the horizon, or looking out for, is some phase two project for the bike park. So, either a few capstone trails, which could be interesting add-ons to the bike park. Or connecting to our most popular trial in the trial system, Skyway. So, make a more designated trail to get there for all users. – Ian Helmer, board member, Hancock Trails Club
The Hancock Trails Club did receive in-kind work to prepare the site from the city of Hancock. Along with grant funds from Visit Keweenaw to help further support the project. When completed in 2026, the creekside bike park in Hancock will offer a great place for new riders to gain confidence and allow experienced riders space to learn new skills. Adding in plans to connect the park to the nearby city campground and the trail network, the bike park will become a center for recreation in Hancock.
