Michigan State Police warn of a new phone scam impacting residents. A new phone scam targeting Michigan residents has been reported to the Michigan state police. Individuals are posing as MSP personnel. The state police department says scammers are calling individuals posing as members of the state police, falsely claiming a resident has missed a court date or has committed some type of violation. Michigan state police will never call to inform individuals to request sensitive personal information or ask for financial payments made directly to personnel. When necessary, the state police will make in-person contact with an individual for official matters, including investigations or other law enforcement-related matters. Residents are urged not to share personal information such as phone numbers, home addresses, social security numbers, or banking information over the phone with unknown callers. If you receive a phone call from a suspicious number, hang up and do not engage with the caller.
