An additional public information session regarding the proposed Houghton County Elder Nutrition Services millage has been scheduled.
The forum will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 7:30 at the 5th & Elm Coffee House at 426 Quincy Street in Hancock.
If passed by voters on August 5th, Houghton County voters would be assessed 1 mill for the next four years.
The money would enable Copper Shores Meals on Wheels to expand its operations to provide services to seniors all across the county.
The measure is one of four millage requests on the August 5th ballot. Houghton County is also asking for a 2.25 mill renewal for four years to support Canal View. That’s a slightly lower millage than has been collected in previous years.
Voters will be asked to approve a $32 million bond sale to replace the aging Houghton County jail. The initial tax burden would be around 1.6 mills, and the term as much as 30 years.
Voters in Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga Counties will be asked to approve a $45 million bond sale for facilities expansion for the Copper Country Intermediate School District. The initial tax burden would be around 1.15 mills, and the term no longer than 25 years.
