Spring means a colorful sight to return to the Copper Country. And downtown Houghton.
Walking the city’s streets, parks, and trails this summer residents and visitors will see some interesting art installed throughout town. Just before spring could settle into the region the city of Houghton and the Carnegie Museum partnered for a fun event that encouraged people to paint fishes that will appear in garden beds and various places in town.
More than 180 designs were created during the short event, with many families and children having fun and engaging with their community. City manager Eric Waara says seeing them all in a group, laid out for the final sealer coat, you can see the creativity at work. Some fish share similar markings to their real-life counterparts, while others brighten up the area with fun paint and color schemes.
Houghton High School seniors recently placed the fish around town, and residents walking along the waterfront trail can stop to view or take pictures with a fish.
