
The Upper Peninsula Together with Veterans organization recently partnered with the NMU Veteran Services Office to spread joy and break stigmas. Last week The Upper Peninsula Together With Veterans organization, a part of the Michigan Center for Rural Health, brought the comedy touring group 1˚ of Separation.
The show allows veterans a place to relax and laugh with fellow service members while working to break stigmas around mental illness and suicide. The unique program combines comedy and suicide prevention focused on helping veterans in communities. NMU VSO Coordinator Mike Rutledge, who also holds a board position with the Upper Peninsula Together with Veterans organization, says Northern Michigan University is a center for veteran activity in Marquette County with many veterans enrolled on campus or in public outreach organizations. The school enrolls more than 300 students connected to the military.
Together with Veterans works with Veterans service offices around the region to assist where the organization can, and has plans to support veterans’ service festivals this spring. Next Month Upper Peninsula Together with Veterans will appear at the St Ignance Veterans event in Mackinac County. Then on April 24th, the organization will support the Baraga County Veterans Spring Festival at the L’Anse American Legion. In June Together with Veterans plans to assist the Houghton VSO to invite veterans to the annual Vet Fest.
