Susan Sarah Laurie of Ahmeek, Michigan passed away on March 11, 2025 peacefully at her home with her family following a lengthy courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 6, 1955 in Laurium, Michigan to George and Margie (Allen) Biekkola and was raised in Mohawk, Michigan. Susan graduated from Calumet High School, class of 1973. She met the love of her life, Thomas Laurie, and they married on August 10, 1974.
She worked as a waitress at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge and Slim’s Café where she then became a co-owner with her husband, sister-in-law Alecia Gariepy and husband Jim for 20 years. She then worked at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Dollar General until retirement. She enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, spending time with family and friends, and making lots of memories with Bry and Jazzy.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, daughter (Sarah Ann), in-laws Ted and Mabel Laurie, brother Richard Biekkola, sister-in-law Donna Nordstrom, 2 brothers-in-law Derrill and Scott Laurie, 3 nephews Jeremy Nordstrom, Jason and Joel Tuoriniemi, and best friend Geri Hall.
Susan is survived by her husband Thomas “Suds”, daughter Cristy (Robert) Crouch, 4 sisters Mary Beth Biekkola (Sal), Jill (Davey) Ritchie, Peggy Biekkola, and Nancy (Kevin) Wegner, 4 sisters-in-law Bonnie “Deetie” Tuoriniemi (Dave Shannon), Alecia (Jim) Gariepy, Robyn Matthews, and Jean Laurie, 3 brothers-in-law Ron “Ace” (Cheryl) Laurie, Kevin Laurie, and Nordy Nordstrom, 6 grandchildren BryAnna Melton (Dane Sirvio), Jasmin Melton (Cameron Bunk), Nick Crouch (Breigh Lawrence), Rebecca Crouch (Teal Wakeham), James Crouch, and Hanna Wescott (Wayne Marjomaki), 2 great granddaughters Adalida and Nyla, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held for Susan Laurie on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 12:00pm at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, Michigan with Pastor Larry Molloy officiating. Public visitation will be held in the Funeral Home from 10:00am – 12:00pm.
