At the inaugural Hancock Snow Sculpting Invitational yesterday, Hancock DDA Coordinator Todd Gast handed the $1,500 first place check to Sculptora Borealis.
Team USA took second place in the two-team competition. Winter Carnival champions St. Albert the Great and Tau Kappa Epsilon also participated.
Each team crafted their sculptures from eight-foot cubes of snow, put together by the Hancock Public Works Department staff.
Gast said lots of local residents stopped by over the weekend, and were impressed with the artistry…
It’s just really kind of amazing to see what these artists were able to do, and it’s just really in a very short amount of time.
This year’s successful start could lead to a bigger event next year…
We really want to get it on the competitive circuit, on the national scene, so January of 2026, we’d love to have this during our Heikinpäivä celebration.
