Rain and heavy snow cover are causing flooding conditions across the region.
A Flood Warning continues indefinitely for the Sturgeon River from Pelkie to Chassell.
As of this morning, the Sturgeon had passed the bankfull stage. The National Weather Service anticipates the river will rise past flood stage today, crest at about two feet above flood stage Wednesday evening, recede temporarily, then resurge to nearly three feet above flood stage this weekend.
Water levels may reach the bottom of Froberg bridge northeast of Pelkie, in addition to other bridges that cross the river.
Rain is anticipated again tonight, with a thunderstorm possible. Additional rain could fall Thursday, and again Friday night.
The Weather Service cautions that any low-lying areas around streams and rivers are at risk until the heavy snow pack is gone, and the ground thaws.
Officials urge you not to try to drive through flooded areas. As little as six inches of moving water can stall a small car, and a foot can float most cars off the road. Turn around, and find an alternate route.
