A Houghton County man was arrested early this morning after firing a gun inside a residence in Osceola Township.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office received a dispatch call at 3 a.m. after multiple gunshots were heard coming from inside a home on Montroal Road. Upon arrival, law enforcement contacted the caller, a woman, who said she and her son had a disagreement.
During the incident, she told officers, her son began shooting a firearm in the air inside the residence. The woman also informed officers her son and daughter were both still in the home and claimed her son threatened to harm people if police were called.
Sheriff’s deputies secured the surrounding area and requested assistance from the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team. While the team was en route, deputies safely removed the daughter from the home.
A negotiator talked the 38-year-old man into leaving the home, and he was arrested without incident.
The Houghton County Sheriff Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police – Calumet Post, MSP Emergency Support Team, Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services, Houghton Police Department, and the Keweenaw County Sheriff Office.
