Keweenaw Community Health Foundation will support Superior Search and Rescue’s K-9 search team with a grant award.
Recently, the Superior Search and Rescue group announced it has received a $5,000 grant award from the Keweenaw Community Health Foundation’s Community Impact Fund. The grant award will support the search and rescue team’s K-9 unit and purchase equipment to ensure the animals’ safety during training opportunities and search incidents.
Superior Search and Rescue will use the funds to purchase GPS collars, protective and identification harnesses, boots, training aids and essential gear. K-9 units as part of the search team have helped find missing persons and locate emergency incidents in the backcountry.
Superior Search and Rescue said the new equipment makes a meaningful difference in keeping the animals safe during training and strengthens the team’s overall preparedness to act in an emergency.
