The Porcupine Mountains 100 snowmobile race will move to Houghton this weekend after organizers canceled the original event due to weather conditions.
A large storm system that narrowly missed the Keweenaw Peninsula forced race organizers to cancel their original plans. However, dropping temperatures after weekend snow melting have created suitable conditions for the relocated event.
The race will now be called the Copper Country 100. COR Powersports is organizing the event with support from Visit Keweenaw, Moyle Companies, Great Lakes Minerals, Keweenaw Snowmobile Club and South Range Snowmobile Club.
The timing works well as snowbanks and trails remain intact despite some weekend melting. The relocated race allows participants and spectators to enjoy the event before conditions deteriorate further.
