Two men in the Copper Country received sentencing on felony OUI offenses this week in separate court proceedings.
In Houghton County 12th Circuit Court, Steven Joshua Schmitt was sentenced Monday for his third OUI offense and driving without a license in 2025. His case was bound over to circuit court in May 2025. Schmitt will serve a minimum 21 months in prison and has been credited with two days served. He will pay a $758 fine.
In a another case, in Baraga County’s courthouse, Todd Francis Selden was sentenced for his third OUI offense Tuesday. Selden’s charges stem from a 2025 arrest, and he waived his right to an arraignment in July. He is credited with 50 days already served on a 100-day sentence. He will pay a fine of $1,008 in court fees. Selden’s defense and the Baraga County prosecutor reached a plea agreement in January 2026.
