Dollar Bay-Tamarack City’s remarkable boys basketball tournament run ended last evening with a 58-47 loss to Detroit’s Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men in a Division Four state semifinal. The Blue Bolts trailed by just three points late in the third quarter, but the Hurricane Hawks outscored them 20-12 over the final nine minutes. Baron Colbert led Dollar Bay with 23 points, and Liam Tourtillot added 14. The Blue Bolts finish their fine season with a record of 24-3.
Douglass will face Concord for the Division Four state championship tomorrow.

School officials have been notified that someone is calling local businesses, claiming to be raising money to support the team. They are not – it’s a scam. Some of the calls have been identified as originating from a 915 area code. No one associated with the team is calling to ask for money. If you get a call, hang up. Donations are being taken exclusively through the GoFundMe page.
Menominee’s season also ended yesterday, with a 78-66 loss to the Arts and Technology Academy of Pontiac in a Division Three semifinal.
College Basketball
The Northern Michigan women’s basketball team opens the NCAA Division II playoffs tonight. The fifth-seeded Wildcats will face fourth-seed Wayne State at 7:30. Grand Valley is the top Midwest seed, and is hosting the opening round. Ferris State is seeded second.
The Michigan Tech and Northern men’s teams begin NCAA tournament play tomorrow at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. The Huskies are seeded third, and will open against sixth-seed Lake Erie. The Wildcats are seeded fifth, and will face fourth-seed Rockhurst.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team faces Minnesota State in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association tournament semifinal game tomorrow night at 7:07. The Mavericks are the top seed, and are hosting the tournament. The Huskies are seeded fourth. Augustana and Saint Thomas will meet in the other semifinal tomorrow afternoon. The winners will play one game for the Mason Cup a week from tonight. The highest remaining seeded team will host.
Michigan Tech’s Stiven Sardarian has been named the CCHA Forward of the Year. Sardarian led the league with 32 points on 10 goals and a league-high 22 assists.
NHL
J.T. Compher scored Detroit’s only goal, as the Red Wings dropped a 4-1 decision to the Lightning last night. John Gibson made 24 saves, and took the loss in net.
The Wings have lost four of their last five games, and visit the Stars tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Coach Todd McLelland said yesterday that injured forwards Dylan Larkin and Andrew Copp will both be out for at least two more weeks.
NBA
The Pistons buried the 76ers 131-109 last evening. Every Detroit player got into the game, and all but one scored. Duncan Robinson led the Pistons with 19 points. Cade Cunningham had 13 assists.

The Bucks fell to the Heat 112-105 last night. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 31.
The Bucks have lost seven of their last eight games, and visit the Hawks tomorrow afternoon.
MLB
The Tigers’ spring troubles continued with a 4-3 loss to the Yankees in Grapefruit League action yesterday. Justin Verlander pitched into the fourth inning, and gave up three solo home runs. Zach McInstry homered for Detroit.
The Tigers face the Pirates tonight. Casey Mize will start for Detroit.
The Brewers were held to just three hits in a 1-0 loss to the Guardians in Cactus League play last night.
The Brewers will face a split Athletics squad this afternoon. Kyle Harrison will start for Milwaukee.
