Boys basketball tournament semifinals…
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City faces Detroit’s Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men in their tournament semifinal game today. Tipoff is at 5:30 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. The Douglass Academy is a magnet school in the Detroit district that focuses on academics, athletics and leadership training. It’s for boys only, and enrollment is capped at around 90 students. Concord and Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian will meet in the other semifinal tonight at 7:30.
The Blue Bolts athletic department has set up a GoFundMe page for donations to help cover the cost of the trip. Supporters can donate directly at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/blue-bolts-are-breslin-bound
School officials have been notified that someone is calling local businesses, claiming to be raising money to support the team. They are not – it’s a scam. Some of the calls have been identified with a 915 area code. No one associated with the team is calling to ask for money. If you get a call, hang up. Donations are being taken exclusively through the GoFundMe page.
Girls basketball tournament regional finals last night…

- In Division Three, Menominee’s regional final against Roscommon was also postponed until tonight. It has also been moved, and will be played at Engadine instead of Newberry. The winner will take on Morley-Stanwood in the quarterfinals.

The Tigers face the Yankees this afternoon. Justin Verlander will start for Detroit.
The Brewers dropped a 6-3 decision to the Reds yesterday. Gary Sánchez and Reese McGuire homered. Starter Robert Gasser couldn’t get through the third inning, and was charged with four runs on five hits – three of them home runs.

NFL
Free agent receiver Romeo Doubs is leaving the Packers for the Patriots. It’s a four-year deal worth $70 million.
Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave is joining the Packers on a two-year deal. The 10-season veteran was recently released by the Vikings.
The Lions have restructured quarterback Jared Goff’s contract. He’s making the same amount of money, but the move opened up $32 million in salary cap space for the team.
Teddy Bridgewater is back with the Lions. The veteran quarterback spent the 2023 season in Detroit, backing up Jared Goff. He’ll fill that same role this season.
Running back Isiah Pacheco is joining the Lions on a one-year deal. Pacheco spent his first four years in the league with the Chiefs, usually as their starter. His production declined after a leg injury in 2024, and Kansas City brought in free agent Kenneth Walker III to take over. Pacheco will fill the gap left when Detroit traded Davie Montgomery to the Texans.
Detroit has released defensive end Josh Paschal. Paschal was the team’s second-round pick in the 2022 Draft. His career was derailed by injuries, and he missed all of last season.
