Patrick J. Cornish, 94, a resident of Calumet and former Houghton resident, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Gardenview Assisted Living in Calumet with his family by his side.
Patrick was born on January 24, 1932, in Troy, MI, a son of the late Edward and Genevieve (Tapio) Cornish. He was raised in Troy and was a graduate of Big Beaver High School, where he played football and was crowned Homecoming King. Following high school. Pat enlisted in the United States Navy, where he honorably served as a Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class.
Mr. Cornish moved to the Copper Country, where he became a loyal servant to God at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton, having served as the Head of Maintenance for both their church and school. Pat loved woodworking, carpentry, camping, singing, and inventing solutions.
Patrick was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Sullivan. The couple was blessed with 7 children, 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Mary Margaret preceded Patrick in death on October 16, 1988.
Pat was then united in marriage to Mary LaBissoniere. She preceded him in death on December 24, 1992.
He was then united in marriage to Mary Agnes Riedy. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2025.
Besides his parents and his spouses, Pat was preceded in death by 6 siblings.
He is survived by his children: Patty Cornish, Michael Cornish (George), Mark Cornish (Mary), Judy Cavanaugh (Steve), Lisa DeWyse (David), Christopher Cornish (Gini), and John Cornish (Jenna).
Numerous Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, his stepchildren and step-grandchildren, and many other extended family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Partrick will be held at 11 am Friday, February 20, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Calumet with Fr. Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate. Spring burial will be held in the Chassell Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 3-5 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock.
