High School

In high school hockey Saturday…

Calumet blanked Negaunee 4-0. Kaden Cronenworth, Luke Hamlin, Josh Asiala and Robert Loukus scored for the Copper Kings, who outshot the Miners 41-9. Jett Stites earned the shutout in net.

The seeds are set for the regional hockey tournament. Houghton is the top seed in Region 17, and will open against fourth-seed Hancock. Calumet is the second seed, and will face third-seed Jeffers. The regional semifinals will be played on Wednesday, February 18th, at the SDC, with the Calumet-Jeffers game at 5:30 and the Houghton-Hancock game at 7:30.

College Hockey

The 20th-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team claimed the MacInnes Trophy with a 4-3 victory over 16th-ranked Augustana Saturday night. Michael Cicek, Matthew Van Blaricom and Luca Fasciano scored for the Huskies, and Jack Anderson’s game-winner in the third period helped him earn Winter Carnival Series MVP honors. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 17 saves.

College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams earned victories over Saginaw Valley State Saturday.

The women’s team held off the Cardinals 68-67. Ella Mason scored 19, and Kendall Standfest added 16.
Jesse Napgezek tied his career high with 18 points, as the 17th-ranked men’s team outscored the Cardinals 62-52.

The Northern Michigan squads split their games against Lake Superior State Saturday.

The 14th-ranked women’s team cruised to a 76-49 victory. Sarah Newcomer scored 25 points.
The 14th-ranked men’s team battled from behind for the entire game, and fell 71-68. Dylan Kuehl had 26 points.

NHL

The Red Wings are off until February 26th because of the Olympics break.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Hornets tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Bucks play at Orlando tomorrow.

NFL
