High School
In high school hockey Saturday at the Trenton MIHL Showcase…
- Noah Maillette scored four goals as Houghton routed University Liggett 10-5. Connor Arko scored twice. Ian Hembroff claimed his first goal of the season, and Gunner Gullstrand and Wes Mattila also found the net. Brycyn Nettel got the win in goal, as the Huskies outshot the Knights 26-13, and held them without a shot in the final period.
- Hancock erupted with five goals in the third period to dispatch Chippewa Valley 8-4. Connor Helminen had a hat trick, and Ted Kilpela added two goals. Ben Keranen, Nolan Hanner and Kirby Storm each scored once. The Bulldogs outshot United 49-28. Adam Mikkola got the win in net.
- Calumet downed Cleveland St. Ignatius 4-2. Goals by Erik Loukus and Robert Loukus staked the Copper Kings to an early lead, but the Wildcats tied it by the end of the opening period. Tyler Halonen netted the game-winner in the second period, and Erik Loukus’ second goal of the contest added some insurance the third. Beau Jukuri made 21 saves.
College Hockey
The 19th-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team shaded 15th-ranked Saint Thomas 4-3 Saturday night to earn a split in their weekend series. Jack Anderson, Elias Janssen, Noah Reinhart and Reid Daavettila scored for the Huskies, and Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 20 saves.
Northern Michigan fell to Bemidji State 7-1 Saturday, and settled for a split in their weekend series. Caiden Gault scored the Wildcats’ only goal.
College Basketball
The sixth-ranked Michigan Tech men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a frigid start, and fell at 23rd-ranked Grand Valley State 55-46 Saturday. The Huskies scored just 17 points in the first half. Marcus Tomashek led Tech with 15 points.
The MTU women’s team also fell behind early, and dropped a 76-62 decision to the top-ranked Lakers. Soraya Timms netted 15 points and Ella Mason added 13.
The 10th-ranked NMU men’s team outscored Davenport University 77-63 Saturday. Four Wildcats reached double figures, led by Dylan Kuehl with 18 points.
Jacy Weisbrod became NMU’s all-time leading women’s three-point shooter as the Wildcats buried Davenport 95-62. Weisbrod scored 25 to lead Northern, and Sarah Newcomer added 24. The 248th triple of Weisbrod’s career broke the record set by Marissa DellAngelo in 2002.

The Calumet Wolverines v the Sun Prairie Killer Bees Saturday – no report.
The unbeaten Portage Lake Pioneers slipped past the Eagle River Falcons 3-2 Saturday.
NHL
The Red Wings lost to the Avalanche 5-0 Saturday, despite outshooting Colorado 28-21.
Those two teams will stage a rematch in Colorado tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 8:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons host the Nets today. Coverage will begin at 5:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
