Aaron Michael Haapala, age 50, of Houghton, Michigan passed away unexpectedly Tuesday January 20, 2026 in Houghton.
Aaron was born on May 26, 1975 in Laurium, Michigan. He was raised by family in the Copper Country. He attended Houghton High School, where he played hockey and was known as a skilled goalie.
On June 21, 1996 Aaron married Karen Ann Kinley. He was a longtime member of the Hubbell Fire Department, serving his community for a number of years. Throughout his life he worked in various occupations, including time with Lammers Coaches.
Aaron enjoyed hunting, demolition derby, and spent much of his life rooted in the local community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Haapala, and his son, Maxwell Haapala.
Aaron is survived by his daughters Amanda Haapala, Reba Mazarowski, Dawn (Matt) Wright, Torri Haapala, and Erin Haapala; his son Neko Haapala; and his grandchildren Oliver (Maxwell) Limanen, Michael Wright, and Wyatt Wright.
A memorial service honoring Aaron, Karen, and Maxwell will be held at the First Baptist Church of Calumet on Saturday, February 7, 2026. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
