In boys basketball last night…
- Houghton dropped a tight 65-59 overtime decision to Ishpeming. Terrance Nolan led the Gremlins with 28 points – 20 in the first half. Alex Hebert added 18, and Mason Mayo scored 10. Grady Gauthier led the Hematites with 18 points, including some clutch late free throws to seal the win.
- Calumet’s game at Ontonagon was called off because of poor road conditions. No make-up date has been announced.
- Baraga stopped Lake Linden-Hubbell 61-48.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City outscored Ewen-Trout Creek 64-31.
- Jeffers got past Bessemer 62-52. Levi Kinninun had 31 points for the Jets, and Landon Larson had 17.
- Chassell buried Watersmeet 70-42. Brayden Larson scored 21 for the Panthers, Dayne Tarvis added 20, and Luke Tarvis chipped in 14. Brayden Cornelius had 18 for the Nimrods, and Dylan McGeshick netted 11.
- L’Anse dispatched Wakefield-Marenisco 63-48.
- Forest Park ovewhelmed Stephenson 83-40.
In girls action last night…
- L’Anse buried Watersmeet 74-29.
- Ewen-Trout Creek shut down Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 51-10.
- Jeffers overpowered Bessemer 63-13. Mia Nordstrom led the Jets with 20 points, and Remi Coponen added 10.
- Forest Park downed Bark River-Harris 60-44.

The Houghton Alpine Ski team competed on a bitter day at Powderhorn. Laura Lucak placed second in the girls giant slalom, and Brady Rubin finished 10th in the boys slalom.
NHL
The Red Wings fell to the Kings 3-1 last night. Alex DeBrincat scored Detroit’s only goal. Patrick Kane got an assist, and tied Mike Modano for the most career assists by a U.S.-born player.
The Wings entertain the Capitals tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons pulled out a 109-107 victory over the Nuggets last evening. Cade Cunningham and Tobias Harris each scored 22, with Harris nailing a couple of late free throws to seal the win.
The Pistons visit the Suns tomorrow.
The Bucks fell 139-122 to the 76ers last night. Myles Turner scored 31 for Milwaukee.
The Bucks call on the Wizards tomorrow.
MLB
Pitchers and catchers report to Tigers spring training camp in Lakeland, Florida two weeks from today.
Longtime Mariners broadcaster Rick Rizzs will retire at the end of this season. Rizzs joined the Mariners in 1983 to work alongside Hall of Fame broadcaster Dave Niehaus. In 1992, he replaced Ernie Harwell as the primary voice of the Tigers. He didn’t catch on with fans in the Motor City, and returned to Seattle after three seasons. This summer will be his 41st in the Mariners’ booth.
