The Copper Dog sled dog race is set to launch down 5th Street in Calumet, marking the start of an exciting weekend in the Copper Country from February 27 to March 1.
Before the race begins, volunteers will gather for the annual Copper Dog volunteer training on February 20 at the Otter River Sleddog Kennel at CLK Schools. The training welcomes both new volunteers and those needing a refresher on handling sled dogs and race duties.
Organizers highlight various ways individuals and groups can support the event, including a new volunteer role as Remote Camera Operators. In partnership with Northern Glow Technologies, remote camera stations will be set up along the race route, including deep in the woods, to capture the race from unique vantage points.
The Copper Dog relies on more than 700 volunteers to ensure a smooth and enjoyable race weekend filled with fun, excitement, and lasting memories in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
Those interested in volunteering or seeking more race details can find information online.
