High School
In high school hockey last night…
- Calumet v Negaunee – postponed to February 7th.
- Hancock used a three-goal surge early in the third period to take the lead, then staved off Jeffers 5-4. Max Nordstrom scored in the first period to give the Jets an early lead. Second-period tallies by Brady Axford and Nolan Hanner pushed the Bulldogs in front, but a Jeffers goal from Brogan Turner tied the game. Hancock’s Connor Helminen broke the tie early in the third period, and Kirby Storm scored twice to put Hancock up by three. Late goals by Nordstrom and Blake Heltunen narrowed the gap, but the Bulldogs held on for the win. Jeffers outshot Hancock 32-20, but Adam Mikkola made 28 saves to get the win. Four of the Bulldogs’ goals came on power plays.

- Hancock lost to West Iron County 61-23.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell fell to Ironwood 73-68 in overtime.

Baraga hosts Ironwood for a pair of games that were originally scheduled for later this week, but have been moved up because of weather concerns. The boys varsity will tip off at 6, and the girls around 7:30.
College Hockey
Two Michigan Tech hockey players have been honored by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
Owen Bartoszkiewicz was named Goaltender of the Week for the fifth time this season, after stopping 70 shots in the Huskies’ two victories over Minnesota State.
Luca Fasciano is the Defenseman of the Week after tallying three points in the weekend sweep.
The two victories pushed Tech back into the national top-20, at number 19 as they prepare for this weekend’s home-and-home series against Northern Michigan.

The Red Wings visit the Maple Leafs tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Pistons visit the Pelicans tonight.
The Bucks host the Thunder tonight.
