A Wisconsin man committed a generous donation to Gogebic Community College to support the nursing and EMS programs preparing students to enter the workforce.
Last week, Gogebic Community College announced it will receive a donation from Lawrence Kutz from Hurley, Wisconsin, to support and ensure the nursing and Emergency Medical Services programs will fully prepare students for work in the region.
The donation will purchase critical birthing simulation equipment and expand hands-on training opportunities. The investment comes at a critical time following the closure of the obstetrics department at the Aspirus Ironwood location and fewer labor and delivery providers in the Upper Peninsula.
GCC Director of Allied Health Nicole Rowe says with changes to local services it becomes important that future nurses and EMS professionals are confident, skilled and prepared to respond to emergencies and out-of-hospital birth situations.
GCC President Chris Patritto adds the college is grateful for the support and investment into students who will go on to work throughout the region.
