The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community reorganized its tribal council for 2026.
During the reorganizational meeting held last week, the tribe’s council certified the most recent election results, welcoming to the board newly elected officials and Associate Judge Ariel Gougeon.
The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Executive Board in 2026 will be led by Everett Ekdahl Jr. as president. Tony Loonsfoot will serve as the board’s vice president, with Dale Goodreau as treasurer. Elizabeth Julio will fill the role of secretary, with Toni Minton serving as assistant secretary.
The KBIC Tribal Council consists of 12 members elected to three-year terms. President Ekdahl will also begin his second term on the tribal council as he steps up to the president role of the executive board. He previously served as the tribal council vice president and supported the community as a law enforcement officer for over 25 years. The majority of Ekdahl’s law enforcement career was in service to the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community’s Tribal Police Department.
KBIC CEO Brigitte LaPointe says she’s honored and excited to work with Ehkdahl and the KBIC Executive Board while working toward ways to uplift the community, support tribal departments and continue work on important tribal initiatives.
Ekdahl adds he’s honored to serve the community as president of the executive board, knowing the responsibility the role plays in the community. He embraces the challenge with a commitment to the wellbeing of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
