CyberHusky high school students performed well at the 2025 CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. Recently, Houghton high school students, part of Michigan Tech’s CyberHusky, a cybersecurity and computing program that engages middle and high school students, competed in the national event.
Applied Computing Professor and Associate Dean of the College of Computing Yu Cai leads the program. He says he was truly impressed by the team performance during this year’s national competition, with two student teams placing among the top 10 in Michigan’s Platinum Tier. A third team of students earned 12th place in the Michigan Gold Tier.
In 2026, the CyberHusky team expects to take part in the Presidential AI Challenge as part of the National Cyber League’s cybersecurity competition. The Presidential AI Challenge encourages students across the country to explore how artificial intelligence could be used to address challenges affecting their local communities.
