High School
In high school boys’ hoops last night…
- Houghton outscored West Iron County 88-58. Terrance Nolan had 44 points for the Gremlins, and set a school record with 11 three-pointers. Mason Mayo and Alex Hebert each had 13 points. Seth Oberlin led the Wykons with 26 points.
- Calumet stopped Hancock 52-31. The Copper Kings led 41-18 at halftime. Owen Loukus scored 21 for the Kings, all in the first half. Gage Chynoweth had 12 for the Bulldogs.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City dispatched Wakefield-Marenisco 72-49
- Forest Park smothered Bark River-Harris 77-35.
In girls’ play last evening…
- Houghton downed Hancock 53-44. Ellie Hainault led the Gremlins with 14 points and Mia Lawson added 12. Alicia Aho netted 18 for the Bulldogs, and Emery Chynoweth had 11.
- Ontonagon fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 47-28.
- West Iron County lost to Ishpeming 79-51.

- Calumet tips off at Jeffers.
On the girls’ schedule…
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City travels to Wakefield-Marenisco.
- L’Anse plays at West Iron County. The varsity tipoff has been moved up to 5:45 Eastern Time. The JV game has been canceled.
- Forest Park visits North Dickinson.
In girls-boys doubleheaders…
- Ontonagon plays at Lake Linden-Hubbell. Because of incoming bad weather, start times have been moved up. The girls game will tip off at 4:30, with the boys around 6:00. The Lakes’ JV girls game against the Houghton freshmen is canceled.
- Baraga tips off at Ewen-Trout Creek. Start times have been moved up – varsity girls at 5:00, followed by varsity boys. The JV game is canceled.
In high school hockey tonight…
- Calumet entertains Gabriel Richard. Coverage will begin around 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
The Houghton Alpine ski team competed at Marquette Mountain yesterday. Laura Lucak took second place in both the slalom and giant slalom. Brady Rubin placed eighth in the slalom.
College Basketball
The 14th-ranked Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start, and fell to 22nd-ranked Ferris State 70-52 last night. Jacy Weisbrod led the Wildcats with 16 points.
The 18th-ranked Northern men’s squad clobbered Ferris 95-66. Dylan Kuehl scored 23, and Isaiah Allen added 20.
NHL
Andrew Copp’s overtime goal gave the Red Wings a 4-3 victory over the Hurricanes last night. Detroit took a 3-0 lead, with goals from James van Riemsdyk, Alex DeBrincat and Albert Johansson, only to see Carolina erupt for three tallies in the third period to force extra time. John Gibson made 31 saves.
The Wings visit the Bruins tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons are off until Thursday, when they host the Suns. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks will host the Timberwolves tonight.
NFL
The NFL Wild Card playoff round wrapped up last night, as the Texans crunched the Steelers 30-6. Houston broke open a close game with 23 points in the fourth quarter.
That sets up next weekend’s Divisional round games.
On Saturday…
- The Bills visit the Broncos at 4:30.
- The Seahawks host the 49ers at 8:00.
On Sunday…
- The Patriots welcome the Texans at 3:00.
- The Bears entertain the Rams at 6:30.
