High School
In high school hockey last evening…
- Brogan Turner’s goal with 11 minutes remaining gave Jeffers the lead, and the Jets hung on to earn a 3-2 victory over Marquette. Max Nordstrom and Easton Therrian also scored for the Jets, who were outshot 31-22. Kasen Helminen earned the win in net.
- Hancock blanked Kingsford 3-0. The Bulldogs outshot the Flivvers 35-11. Brady Axford, Connor Helminen and Luciano Paoli scored, and Brian Ponnikas got the shutout in goal.
In boys basketball last night…
- Lake Linden-Hubbell fell to Ontonagon 62-57.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City overwhelmed Watersmeet 84-23.
In girls action last evening…
- Houghton defeated Lake Linden-Hubbell 64-46.
- Baraga remained unbeaten with a 51-36 victory over Calumet. Kara Roberts led the Vikings with 18 points. Bailey Strom scored 16 for the Copper Kings. The Baraga defense held Calumet to just two points in the first quarter, and nine in the first half.
- Hancock fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 48-37.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City outscored Watersmeet 39-18.
- L’Anse buried Ironwood 75-31.
- Ontonagon shut down Bessemer 50-10.
- West Iron County lost to Negaunee 55-18

The Houghton ski team hosted its own meet at Mont Ripley yesterday. Top 10 finishes included Laura Lucak, who took third in the girls slalom, and Brady Rubin, who placed sixth in the boys giant slalom.

The Lions are looking for a new offensive coordinator. John Morton was fired yesterday, less than a year after taking over for Ben Johnson, who became head coach of the Bears. Detroit head coach Dan Campbell took over offensive play-calling duties midway through the season.
The Packers have seen enough of quarterback Clayton Tune. After passing for just 34 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Vikings, Tune was released yesterday. Green Bay promoted Desmond Ridder from the practice squad to the active roster. He’ll be the third-stringer behind starter Jordan Love and backup Malik Willis when the Packers open the playoffs Saturday night at Chicago. Hear all of the NFL playoff games on 99.3 The Lift.
