High School
In high school hockey yesterday…
- Houghton got past Calumet 3-1. Brody Donnelly opened the scoring for the Gremlins, and Noah Maillette scored the game-winner and an insurance tally in the third period. Oskar Loukus scored the Copper Kings’ only goal. Brycyn Nettel made 26 saves for Houghton. Beau Jukuri stopped 35 shots for Calumet.
- Jeffers shaded Hancock 3-2. Brogan Turner netted the game-winner with 3:42 remaining in regulation. Cameron Anderson and Hudson Heinonen also scored for the Jets. Ben Keranen and Kirby Storm had goals for the Bulldogs. Kasen Helminen made 16 saves for Jeffers, and Brian Ponnikas stopped 29 shots for Hancock.
At the boys basketball showcase featuring teams from the Copper Mountain Conference against teams from the Skyline Conference yesterday…
- Baraga handed Stephenson its first loss of the year, 43-34.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell got past North Central 60-53.
- L’Anse fell to Norway 51-46.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City shaded Forest Park 49-45 in overtime.
In other hoops action…
- The Jeffers boys lost to Ishpeming 65-56.
- The Jeffers girls fell to Ishpeming 40-25.
Three of the games from the girls high school showcase that were weathered out on Monday will be played today at Houghton High School.
- Wakefield-Marenisco will meet Forest Park at 12:30
- Lake Linden-Hubbell takes on North Dickinson at 2:00
- L’Anse will face Munising at 3:30.
- The Baraga-Norway game will be made up later – no date has been announced.
College Hockey
Two Michigan Tech Players have been honored by the CCHA. Stiven Sardarian is the latest conference Offensive Player of the Week, and Owen Bartoszkiewicz is the Goaltender of the Week.
