High School

Houghton swept the titles at the inaugural Copper Country Classic high school basketball tournament yesterday.

The Gremlins shut down Calumet 70-26 in the boys championship game.
In the girls title match, Houghton got past Calumet 46-37. Kate Filpus paced the Gremlins with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Ruby Zawada added 10 points. Bailey Strom netted 14 for the Copper Kings.
In the boys consolation game, Jeffers defeated Hancock 59-29.
In the girls consolation contest, Hancock stopped Jeffers 42-27.

NHL

The Red Wings edged the Stars 4-3 in overtime to earn their sixth straight win last night. James van Riemsdyk and Emmitt Finnie scored Detroit’s first two goals. Dylan Larkin tied the game with four minutes left in regulation, then netted the game-winner 34 seconds into the overtime period. John Gibson made 19 saves.

The Wings are off until Saturday, when they visit the Hurricanes.

NBA

The Pistons outscored the Kings 136-127 last night. Tobias Harris led Detroit with 24 points. Cade Cunningham had 23 points and 14 assists, and Jalen Duren had 23 points and 13 rebounds.

The Pistons have won nine of their last 11, and visit the Jazz Friday. Coverage will begin at 9:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Bucks broke their three-game losing streak with a 111-94 victory over the Pacers last night. Kevin Porter, Jr. scored 24 points, and Ryan Rollins added 23.

The Bucks visit the Grizzlies Friday.

NFL

Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy will miss tomorrow’s game against the Lions because of a hairline fracture in his hand. The injury forced him out of last Sunday’s win over the Giants. Undrafted rookie Max Brosmer will start for Minnesota, with former Ram John Wolford as the backup.
