The Herman Gundlach Donor Advised Fund awarded more than $60,000 to 36 nonprofit organizations in 2025.
Earlier in December the Keweenaw Community Foundation announced the Herman Gundlach Donor Advised Fund chose to split $60,000 among 36 nonprofit organizations. Two-thirds of the awards in 2025 support organizations fighting food insecurity in the Copper Country.
The Herman Gundlach Donor Advised Fund continues Winks’ lifetime legacy in the Keweenaw Peninsula and is managed with the leadership of Herman Gundlach’s daughters.
Julie Gundlach says after recently cleaning off her fridge she left a quote up: “Come, come whoever you are… ours is not a community of despair.” She says the quote aligns greatly with how her father lived his life and served his community.
Some of the organizations fighting food insecurity that will receive a portion of the $41,000 specified for organizations with that mission include 31 Backpacks, CLK Council of Churches, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly and Let’s Eat Community Meals.
Other organizations receiving a portion of the 2025 Herman Gundlach Fund awards include the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, UP Kids, Unite Mental Health and the Copper Country Suzuki.
