The new Copper Country Classic high school basketball tournament opened yesterday at the SDC. In opening-round contests…
- The Houghton boys defeated Jeffers 53-38.
- The Houghton girls got past Jeffers 38-33.
- The Calumet boys stopped Hancock 41-25.
- The Calumet girls shut down Hancock 35-24. The Copper Kings held the Bulldogs to just two points in the final quarter. Kyla Strom came off the bench to lead Calumet with 13 points, and Jess Anderson added 9.

- Jeffers will face Hancock in the boys consolation game at 2:30.
- Jeffers and Hancock will meet in the girls consolation match at 4:00.
- Houghton and Calumet will play for the boys title at 5:30.
- Houghton and Calumet will vie for the girls championship at 7:00.

College Basketball
Michigan Tech guard Marcus Tomashek has been named the GLIAC Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week. Tomashek scored 22 points in the Huskies’ win over Florida Tech Friday, then set a team record with 11 three-pointers while scoring 39 points against Lynn on Saturday. It’s Tomashek’s first Player of the Week nod this season, and the ninth of his career.

The Red Wings host the Stars tonight, with coverage beginning at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Pistons outscored the Trail Blazers 110-102 last night. Jalen Duren had 26 points and 10 rebounds.
